Peas Sir, I want some more

Ever just get a real hankering for something you MUST have?

It’s a bit of redundant question really isn’t it? I mean I don’t know one client, colleague, friend or family member who hasn’t said to me at one stage or another “I just really want some (insert hankering of choice)”.

Whether it is emotionally of physiologically driven, we all sometimes get the desire to eat or drink something rather random. Like, right now. As in stat. Pronto. Where is it already?!

Recently I had one of those moments. And you know what I hankered for? Peas. Yep, I’m crazy, I know. Like total nut case (did I ever tell you that is a bit of a nickname from friends of mine for me by the way?) , who the hell ever craves peas crazy!

Fortunately that all subsided when I got my peas. I got ‘em mushy and I got ‘em in my tummy. Hankering ELIMINATED.

Now for you super duper clean eaters out there, particularly if you are trying to lose that last bit of weight, well, peas are a little difficult to digest and will make it a little slower to lose weight than if you had, say, mushy spinach. But it just doesn’t have the same ring does it? Err…not to mention the texture, flavour and creaminess.

The good news is that I have a super simple and super clean mushy pea recipe to share with you today that will kick those fish and chip shop, processed, sugar and refined salt-laden mushy peas to the curb. I find this recipe so comforting…probably because I have memories of fish and chip shop jaunts as a kid and always asking about “the green stuff”.

Clean Mushy Peas

1 cup frozen peas
2 teaspoons olive oil
Sea salt and black pepper to taste
1/4 cup of steam water

Steam or boil the peas until cooked. Once lightly cooked, place the peas, the steam water, oil and salt and pepper together into a blender. Pulse a few times until blended but still chunky. You can blend the peas until smooth if you like, I just prefer the chunkier consistency.

Voila! That’s it! El cheapo, quick mushy peas without the side of fried fish and chips. Gotta love that!

Let me know what you think if you try this comfort food!

    Hi Casey,

I just tried this recipe, and it is a comfort food for sure. So yummy, and nourishing. I added a some nutritional yeast to the recipe, since I am a nutritional yeast junkie, and it was to die for. Mushy peas….who woulda thought? ;)
